Why Independent OT can help people in their own homes stay safer for longer

home-adaptationsAs DOTS continues to promote our Independent OT Service we are hoping to be able to help people make the right decisions about any adaptations to their homes. We have been asked on several occasions to go out and assess an individual in their own home after a costly adaptation or purchase of equipment only to find it still doesn’t enable them to be safe or do what they would like or need to do. We then have to make costly recommendations to alter or change the adaptation/equipment to suit the individual. OTs are unique in their ability to be able to assess the individual, the home environment and the activity and to give the various options available. We can do this before mistakes are made and help the person get what they need and will be able to use safely. We hope to be helping more and more people in this way.
